Master’s Programs (M.Sc.)

The Language of Instruction

The language of instruction in the Civil Engineering Master’s Programs at Çankaya University is English.
The Department offers two different Master’s Programs: with thesis and non-thesis.
In these programs, education is provided in the sub-disciplines of civil engineering, including mechanics, structures, hydraulics, geotechnics, and materials.

Application Requirements

Applicants to the Master’s Programs are required to take an oral examination on the dates announced by the Graduate School.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Master’s Program with Thesis

A student must successfully complete a minimum of 21 credits (7 courses in total, including 2 compulsory and 5 elective courses),
as well as the non-credit courses CE 590 Graduate Seminar in Civil Engineering and CE 599 Master’s Thesis in Civil Engineering.

Non-Thesis Master’s Program

A student must successfully complete a minimum of 30 credits (10 courses in total, including 2 compulsory and 8 elective courses),
as well as the non-credit course CE 592 Master’s Project in Civil Engineering, which must be taken in the student’s final semester.

Advising System

Students in both programs must register for courses recommended by their advisors.
In the first semester, the Chair of the Department acts as the temporary advisor.
Until a permanent advisor is assigned, students must follow the Chair’s recommendations.

Course Options

Students in both programs may register for any of the graduate courses listed by the department.
In the Thesis Program, up to two undergraduate courses may be taken with approval.
In the Non-Thesis Program, up to three undergraduate courses may be taken with approval, provided they were not completed during bachelor’s studies.

Program Duration

The minimum duration of the Master’s Program with Thesis is three semesters, and the maximum is six semesters.
The Non-Thesis Master’s Program must be completed in a minimum of two semesters and a maximum of three semesters
(excluding any Scientific Preparation period).

Thesis Advisor and Topic

In the Thesis Program, the Department proposes a thesis advisor for each student by the end of the first semester at the latest.
Together with the student, the advisor determines the thesis topic, which must be proposed to the Graduate School by the end of the second semester.
The thesis proposal must include a literature review and be submitted in written and electronic formats.
