About Department

The scope of the Department of Civil Engineering program comprises eight semesters that are taught during a four-year period following a one-year long preparatory program for English language training. During the study period students must succeed in all courses that are described in the department’s program, and complete two summer internship employments. There are additional practical laboratory sessions and field visits arranged for supporting the theoretical training. The curriculum has been designed to produce engineers who can apply fundamental principles innovatively for the solution of a new range of problems, possess effective written and verbal communication skills to work in multidisciplinary teams. Our program aims at producing professionals who can manage complex projects in the business world, create safe and economical designs to serve their country in an increasingly competitive world.

Mastery of professional English, supported by knowledge of a second foreign language will facilitate graduates to move on for pursuit of more advanced degrees nationally or abroad, and enable them to find employment in the global economy. The current intake into the department is 25 students per year. Of these, the top 5 students are granted full tuition and fee waivers, and the next 20 are exempted from meeting half of these sums.

Why Civil Engineering ?

Civil engineering is the branch of science and technology where professionals utilize a knowledge of the mathematical and physical sciences gained by study, experience, and practice to apply them with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the well-being of society. Civil engineers improve and protect the environment, and provide facilities for community living, industry and transportation. They conceive, design, construct and maintain facilities comprising the built environment for the use of humanity.

Changing environmental conditions at the beginning of the twenty-first century represent new challenges for civil engineering. Globalization of the world economy, problems that face many countries in terms of sustainable development require that we should redefine the boundaries of engineering. As problems evolve and change the need for engineers who are equipped with a broad range of skills and knowledge and who are capable of applying these skills in different areas grows exponentially. The type of civil engineers who fit that description possess strong analytical skills and feel at home with new computational methods. They can apply those methods for the solution of a wide range of problems. The curriculum at Çankaya University in Civil Engineering has been designed to achieve this objective.

Goals of the Department of Civil Engineering

1) To enable graduates to master correct professional English, that will facilitate their pursuit of advanced degrees on nationally or international platforms,

2) To train civil engineers who possess strong analytical skills and are at home with emerging computational methods so that they can apply new methods for the solution of a wide range of problems,

3) To produce civil engineers who improve and protect the environment, and provide professional services for modern community facilities, industry and transportation,

4) To train civil engineers, according to an appropriately designed curriculum with the ability of thinking creatively and the flexibility to work in multidisciplinary teams as diligent, qualified, competitive, ethical individuals with a broad vision.
