Department Introduction
The Civil Engineering Department offers a 4-year program following a 1-year English language preparatory course. Throughout eight semesters, students are required to successfully complete the mandatory and elective courses outlined in the curriculum and to complete two summer internships. The education is supported by practical activities such as laboratory work, seminars, competitions, and technical site visits. Our aim is to train civil engineers who can think analytically and creatively, communicate effectively in both oral and written forms, collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, and design safe and economical structures. Various experiments are conducted in hydraulic, geotechnical, and mechanical laboratories in our department both for teaching and research purposes.
Why Civil Engineering?
Civil engineering is a profession that designs, constructs, and supervises the infrastructure necessary for society to sustain life. Key goals include improving material efficiency, protecting the environment, and ensuring the safety of industrial and transportation facilities. It is the first engineering discipline established at the university level in Turkiye. In the early 21st century, civil engineering faces new challenges arising from changing conditions. The increasing importance of engineers who have a solid understanding of fundamental principles and can apply them flexibly across different fields is crucial. The curriculum at Çankaya University’s Civil Engineering Department is designed to cultivate engineers who possess strong analytical skills and can easily apply modern computational methods.
